Road trips can be a great way to see the country and visit faraway relatives and friends. However, you might be tempted to bring more than you really need since you have a whole cargo area to fill. Unnecessary weight can hamper your fuel efficiency and it just makes your trip more complicated with more things to keep track of. Here are a few tips on how to pack lightly for a road trip.
Check the Weather
Before you start packing, check the 10-day forecast for your destination. Plan your wardrobe accordingly. If the temperature won’t drop below 80 degrees, you can probably leave your sweatshirt at home.
Plan a Simple Wardrobe
Pack clothes that coordinate well with each other and can easily be mixed and matched. Don’t pack more than a week’s worth of clothes. If you will be gone longer, spend a couple of hours doing laundry while on your trip.
Instead of folding your clothes, roll them up tightly. This will give you more space in your suitcase. It will also help prevent wrinkles.
Use Small Toiletries
Take advantage of travel-size toiletries and pack everything in a small bag or gallon size Ziploc bag. If you’ll be staying at a hotel, use the toiletries they provide so you don’t have to pack them.
